The town offers excellent beaches, a great selection of restaurants, and an active nightlife. Only an hour away from Liberia international airport and about 3.5 hours from San Jose.

Santa Teresa

Santa Teresa is at the tip of the Nicoya Penisula and offers gorgeous beaches with incredible sunsets. It is a little more rustic than Tamarindo but still offers great places to eat and several fun activities. It’s about 3.5 hours from both Liberia and San Jose with the last hour or so on dirt road.

Arenal

Arenal/La Fortuna is a great mountain town at the base of the Arenal volcano. The area is lush and offers great activities, wildlife viewing, hot springs, and canopy tours. It is about 3 hours from Liberia and 2 hours from San Jose.

Exploring Costa Rica with your own car can be a ton of fun just be aware there are no street signs so make sure you get a map or purchase a gps navigation unit with your rental.
